Poihākena marae is located in Raglan (Whaingāroa), about 50 km due west of Hamilton. The primary hapū for this marae is Ngāti Tahinga of Tainui.
The whare tupuna is Tainui a Whiro. The marae connects to the Tainui waka, the moana Whaingāroa, the awa Wainui and the maunga Karioi.
