Kairau

Kairau marae is located just outside of Waitara. Its principal hapū is Pukerangiora of the iwi Te Atiawa.

The wharenui is named Te Hungaririki. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Tokomaru and the maunga Taranaki. Kawa (protocol) followed on Kairau is pāeke, meaning host speakers address first, followed by the visitors.
