Mangaemiemi (also known as Ōtaraua) is located on the banks of the Waitara River, near Waiatara township. Its principal hapu is Otaraua, connecting to the iwi Te Āti Awa.
The wharenui is named Te Ahi Kaa Roa. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Tokomaru, the maunga Taranaki and the awa Waitara
