Wharauroa

Wharauroa marae is located in Taumarunui on the banks of the Whanganui River. Its primary hapū are Ngāti Hāuaroa, Ngāti Hekeawai and Ngāti Te Wera of Ngāti Haua iwi, with connections to Te Ātihaunui-a-Pāparangi.

The wharenui is named Hikurangi, and stands on the land of the same name (Hikurangi Pā). Wharauroa connects ancestrally to the Aotea  waka, the awa Whanganui and the maunga Hikurangi, Ruapeha and Tuhua.
