Whangaehu marae is in Whangaehu, on the banks of the Whangaehu River. Its hapū include Ngāti Ika, Ngāti Kiriwheke, Ngāti Rangipakini, Ngāti Rangiwaho, Ngāti Rangiwhakaturia and Ngāti Ruahau of the iwi Ngāti Apa.
The wharenui is named Rangitāhuahua, and the wharekai is Rakautaua. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Kurahaupō, the maunga of Ruapehu and Paraekaretu, and numerous awa including Mangawhero, Rangitikei, Turakina, and Whangaehu.
