Whakawehi marae (also known as Poutu) is located northwest of Shannon on the Foxton Shannon Road, just off State Highway 57, about 35 km southwest of Palmerston North. It belongs to the hapū Ngāti Whakatere of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga.
The whare tupuna of Whakawehi are named Mahi Tamariki and Poutu, and the whare karakia is Turongo. The marae connects ancestrally to the maunga Tararua, the awa Manawatū and the waka collective of Tainui.
