Whakamārama marae is located just east of Otorohanga in Wharepuhunga. It belongs to the hapū Ngāti Takihiku, Ngāti Whakatere, and Ngāti Puehutore of the iwi Ngāti Raukawa ki Wharepuhunga.
The wharenui is named Te Rangimoeākau. Whakamārama connects to the maunga Panetoki, the awa Mangatūtū and the waka Tainui.
