Wairūrū marae is located on State Highway 35 in Waihau Bay. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Maruhaeremuri of Te Whānau a Apanui iwi.
The whare are called Hinemahuru and Mihi Kotukutuku, and the wharekai is Maruhaeremuri. The marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua waka, the maunga Kirieke and the awa Raukokore, Waiongatiawa and Wairūrū.
