Waipuna

Waipuna marae is located on the main road in the township of Panguru, in the northern Hokianga. Its primary hapū are Te Waiāriki and Te Kaitutae of Te Rarawa.

Waipuna depicts the history of the ancestor Kupe, and the original marae was built over 100 years ago further back on the site. The current whare, Te Puna I Te Ao Marama, was opened in 1983 by Dame Whina Cooper. Waipuna connects ancestrally to the awa Whakarapa and the maunga Panguru.
