Waiomatatini marae is located on the banks of the Waiapu River, south of Tikitiki. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Karuai of the iwi Ngāti Porou.
The wharenui is called Porourangi after the eponymous Ngāti Porou ancestor, the wharekai is Lady Arihia. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta, the maunga Hikurangi and the awa Waiapu.
