Waimako Pā is located in Tuai, 50 km north of Wairoa on the edge of Te Urewera. The primary hapū is Te Whānau Pani of Ngāi Tūhoe.
The whare tipuna is named Te Poho-o-Tuhoe Potiki. Waimako Pa connects ancestrally to the Mātaatua waka, the maunga Maungapōhatu and the moana Waikaremoana.
