Waihī marae is located about 4 km west of Tokaanu. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Turumakina of Ngāti Tūwharetoa iwi.
The wharenui is called Tapeka. The marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka, the maunga Tongariro and the roto Taupō.
