Tohia o te Rangi marae is located just east of Kawerau, across the Tarawera River (Te Awa o Te Atua). The principal hapū are Ngāi Tamarangi and Ngāti Peehi of Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau (Waiāriki).
The whare tupuna is called Waitaha Ariki-kore, and the wharekai is Hine-te-Ariki. The marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka, the awa Tarawera and the maunga Pūtauaki, Tirotirowhetū (to the left of the marae) and Otukoiro (to the right of the marae).
