Tini Waitara marae is located 5 km west of Turakina, on the banks of the Turakina River. Its hapū include Ngāti Hika Pirau, Ngāti Hinewai, Ngāti Ika, Ngāti Kiriwheke, Ngāti Rākeikauwhata, Ngāti Rangipuhi, Ngāti Rangitūmoana, Ngāti Ratua, Ngāti Riki, Ngāti Tamatea, Ngāti Tamawaina and Ngāti Tumoetere of the iwi Ngāti Apa.
The wharenui is named Te Horo Taraipi, and the wharekai is Te Oranga. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Kurahaupō, the maunga Paraekaretu and Ruapehu, and a number of awa including Mangawhero, Rangitikei, Turakina, and Whanganui.
