Te Wai-iti marae is located just 5 km from Ruatāhuna in Te Urewera. The primary hapū is (Ngāti Kurī) Kurī Kino of Ngāi Tūhoe.
The whare tipuna is named Te Poho o Kuri Kino. Te Wai-iti connects ancestrally to the Mātaatua waka, the maunga Manawaru, and the awa Ōhinemataroa.
