Te Papatapu marae is located on the northeastern shores of the Aotea Harbour, 26 km north of Kawhia township. The primary hapū for are marae is Ngāti Te Weehi and Ngāti Mahanga.
The whare tupuna is named Nga Uri oo Ngatokorua, the wharemoe is Parewhakarukuruku and the wharekai is Te Aroha oo te Atarua. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the moana Aotea and the maunga Karioi.
The old whare tipuna is Parewhakarukuruku and the old wharekai is Te Wehi-kai-wakarua
