The wharenui is named Parewaeono. Te Keeti connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka and the maunga Pirongia. In 1937 Te Keeti was gazetted and set aside for the common use and benefit of the tribes of Maniapoto as a marae and papakainga. The original Te Keeti wharenui was replaced in 1983 with a new steel-framed building.
