The remains of the Te Au marae complex are located in the Hīmatangi area, 7km north of Foxton. The principal hapū for this marae is Ngāti Te Au.
Te Au, the eponymous ancestor, was the son of Ngārongo of Ngāti Raukawa and Hineteao of Ngāti Tūkorehe.
Te Au marae ancestrally links to the iwi of Ngāti Raukawa te au ki te Tonga. No wharenui exists (as it fell down in the 1960s), and the urupā is the only remaining part of the Te Au marae.
