Te Aowera marae (also known as Whakapaurangi Pā) is located about 10 km west of Ruatōria on Whakapaurangi Road. Its principal hapū is Te Aowera of Ngāti Porou iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Poho o Te Aowera, and the wharekai is Hine Haere. The marae connects ancestrally to Horouta waka, the maunga Hikurangi and the awa Mata.
