Taurua marae is located on the southern shores of Lake Rotoiti at Taurua. The primary hapū is Ngāti Te Rangiunuora of Ngāti Pikiao.
The whare tupuna is named Te Rangiunuora, and the marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka and the maunga Matawhaura.
