Taraia marae is located on the Old Main Road, Pakipaki. Its principal hapū are Ngāti Hōtoa and Ngāti Taraia.
The wharenui is also called Taraia. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu, the maunga Kahurānaki and the awa Ngaruroro and Tukituki.
