Tapuihikitia marae is located between Te Karaka and Whatatutu, 40 km inland from Gisborne. It belongs to the hapū Ngā Pōtiki and Te Whānau a Taupara of Te Aitanga ā Māhaki.
The wharenui is called Te Aroha, and the wharekai is Te Tumanako Tuarua. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta, the awa Waipaoa and the maunga Maungahaumi.
