Tapuaeharuru marae is located on the eastern shores of Lake Rotoiti at Tapuaeharuru Bay. Its primary hapū are Ngāti Kawiti and Ngāti Tamateatutahi of Ngāti Pikiao.
The whare tupuna is named Uruika, and the marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka and the maunga Matawhaura.
