Taiwhakaea (Te Paroa) marae is located north of Whakatāne, close to the Oriini Stream. The primary hapū is Ngāi Taiwhakaea II of Ngāti Awa.
The whare tipuna is called Taiwhakaea II and the wharekai Toanatini. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Mataatua, the maunga Kaputerangi and Pūtauaki, and the awa Ōhinemataroa and Oriini.
