Ruaihona

Ruaihona marae is located in Te Teko, on the banks of the Rangitaiki River. The primary hapū is Ngāi Tamaoki. Ruaihona marae rests close to Ōtipa Pā. The site was occupied at different times by the hapū Ngā Maihi and Warahoe as well.

The whare tipuna is also called Ruaihona and the wharekai is Mahanga-i-te-rangi. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Mataatua, the maunga Pūtauaki and the awa Rangitaiki.

Ruaihona marae rests on the ancestral papakainga Hekerangi with two other marae, Tuteao and Uiraroa. The original whare tipuna was opened on 1 July 1910, and all the carvings were completed by the famed Ngāti Tarāwhai master carver Eramiha Neke Kapua.
