Rongohaere marae is located about 11 km southwest of Ruatōria on Makarika Road, off Waiapu Road. Its principal hapū are Te Aitanga a Mate, Te Whānau a Rākairoa and Te Whānau a Rutaia of Ngāti Porou iwi.
The wharenui is also called Rongohaere, and the wharekai is Te Rangitawaea. The marae connects ancestrally to Horouta waka, the maunga Hikurangi, the awa Te Makatote and Te Mata.
