The remains of the Rengarenga marae complex are located in the wider Tapapa area, 18 km south-east of Matamata. The marae genealogically connects to Te Kaokaoroa o Pateretere, and the principal hapū associated with Rengarenga are Ngāti Mōtai, and Ngāti Te Apunga.
The marae ancestrally links to the tribal collective of Ngāti Raukawa. No wharenui exists, and the urupa, or cemetery, is the only remaining part of the Rengarenga marae.
