Rātā (Te Hou Hou / Potaka) marae is located 10 km south of Hunterville on State Highway 1. Its primary hapū is Ngāti Tamateraka of Ngāti Hauiti. In the mid-1800s the main body of Ngāti Hauiti migrated to Te Hou Hou kāinga (settlement) at Rātā, and from that point on it became their stronghold.
The wharenui is named Hauiti and the marae connects ancestrally to the Tākitimu waka and the awa Rangitīkei.
