Paneteure marae is located 4 km south of Rūātoki, across the Whakatāne River. The primary hapū is Ngāti Rongo of Ngāi Tūhoe.
The whare tipuna is named Hui-te-rangiora. Paneteure connects ancestrally to the Mātaatua waka, the maunga Huiterangiora and the awa Paekoau.
