Painoaiho marae is located in Galatea, 3 km east of Murupara on the edge of Te Urewera National Park. Its primary hapū is Ngāti Koro of Ngāti Manawa.
The wharenui is Ruatapu. Painoaiho marae connects ancestrally to the maunga Tawhiuau and the awa Rangitaiki and Whirinaki.
