Ngātokowaru marae is nestled on the south bank of the Hokio Stream, west of Lake Horowhenua and about 8 km west of Levin. Its primary hapū is Ngāti Pareraukawa.
The whare tupuna, Ngātokowaru, was opened by Ngāti Toa Rangātira in March 1978. The dining room, Pareunuora, has undergone several renovations since 1981, with the new kitchen being completed in 2012. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Tainui, the maunga Tararua and the awa Hokio.
