Moteo marae is located near Puketapu. Its principal hapū are Ngāti Hinepare, Ngāti Maahu and Ngai Tawhao of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.
The wharenui is called Rangimarie. Hamuera connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu, the maunga Tuhirangi and Puketapu and the awa Tutaekuri.
