Mangatangi Marae is located near Mangatawhiri, 45 minutes south of central Auckland and 1 hour from Hamilton. The primary hapū are Ngāti Tamaoho and Ngāti Koheriki of Waiohua, Tamaoho are also mana whenua in Tāmaki Makaurau. The haukainga host their annual Poukai on 12 October every year in remembrance of the passing of Te Puea Kirihaehae Herangi under the mantle of the Kiingitanga and Waikato iwi.
The Whare Kai is Kirihaehae, the Kauta is Tumokai (named after Te Puea's husband), and the Whare Oranga is named Piiruru Hau. Mangatangi connects to the maunga Maungaroa and Taupiri and the awa Mangatangi and Waikato. Ngāti Tamaoho have two other marae, Whatāpāka in Karaka and Ngā Hau E Wha in Pukekohe.
Renovations of the Whare Tūpuna and Kauta were completed in 2025. Please use our online system to make a booking.
