Makomako marae can be found on Back Miranda Road in Waitakaruru, off State Highway 25 in the Thames-Miranda region. It is one of the three main marae of the iwi Ngāti Paoa.
The wharenui is named Rangimarie. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the awa Piako and Tikapa, and the maunga Pukorokoro and Kohukohunui.
