Mōtakotako

Mōtakotako marae is located inland from Ruapuke and just north of Aotea Harbour. The primary hapū for this marae is Ngāti Whakamarurangi.

The whare tipuna is Te Ōhākī a Mahuta. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the maunga Karioi, the moana Whaingāroa and the whenua Aotea. The hapū of this marae are kaitiaki over Waireinga, or the famous Bridal Veil Falls, which are located in their rohe.
