Māhimaru marae is located in Awanui along State Highway 10 on the boundary between Ngāti Kahu and Ngāi Takoto. Māhimaru is also the name of the papakainga.
The wharenui is called Te Whakamomoringa. Māhimaru marae is one of five marae of the iwi of Ngāi Takoto.
