Kawiti

Kawiti marae is in Waiomio, near Kawakawa. It was a project started by Te Tawai and Maata Kawiti of Ngāti Hine in the early 1970s. Kawiti marae rests next to their home and the facilities were opened on it in 1978–79. 

The wharenui is named Te Tawai Riri Maihi Kawiti as a memorial after his passing in 1981. The wharekai was later named Maata Matekino Kawiti in memory of her passing in 1999.
