Hīrangi marae is located in Tūrangi. Its principal hapu is Ngāti Turangitukia of Ngāti Tūwharetoa iwi.
The wharenui is called Tūwharetoa i te Aupōuri. The marae connects ancestrally to Te Arawa waka, the maunga Tongariro and the roto Taupo.
