Aranui is located on Devery Road, across the Wairoa River south of Frasertown. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Tamaterangi of the iwi Ngāti Kahungunu.
The wharenui is called Arapera/Te Poho o Ngapera. Aranui connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu and the awa Wairoa.
