Whakataki marae is located on the coast at Whakataki, about 60 km east of Masterton. The hapū are Ngāti Hinepare, Ngāti Kakawa, Te Rautangata of the iwi Kahungunu.
The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu.
The whare depicted in the photos is of the Kuia Paku's homestead or 'Old Lady Paku's' house. The actual marae land can be slightly located in the photograph. A fire destroyed the original wharenui in 1960. The tekoteko, Whareaute, which survived, is kept in the Whakataki Hotel. The hapū intends to build a new wharenui to replace the one that was burnt down.
