Waikare marae is located on Waikare Road in the Bay of Island locality of Waikare. Its principal hapū is Te Kapotai of the Ngāpuhi iwi, who trace descent from the waka named Ngātokimatawhaorua.
The whare tupuna is Ko Te Aranga o te paa and the wharenui is Te Huihuinga. Waikare marae connects to the maunga Kapowai and to the Waikare River.
