Waahi marae is located on the banks of the Waikato River, adjacent to the Huntly Power Station. Its principal hapū are Ngāti Kuiaarangi, Ngāti Mahuta, Ngāti Tai and Ngāti Whaawhaakia. The marae sits upon a section of the Parish of Pepepe Lot 42 and 42 x 1 Block Order File 711/W, and in 1955 this area was designated as an area for community buildings.
The wharenui is named Tāne i te Pupuke. Waahi marae connects to the Tainui waka, the maunga Taupiri and the awa Waikato.
