Tākou Marae is situated in Tākou Bay in the Bay of Islands. The marae stands to the south of the Tākou River. The wharenui is named Te Whetu Marama and was built in 1935.
The principal hapū of Tākou Marae is Ngāti Rēhia and is connected to the maunga named Oranga and also known as Pā o Puhi; and to Tākou River.
