Opape marae is located on the eastern boundary of Whakatōhea at Opape, about 15 km east of Ōpōtiki. The primary hapu is Ngāi Tamahaua (Ngāi Tama) of Whakatōhea iwi.
The wharenui is called Muriwai and the wharekai is Tapairu. Opape marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua and Nukutere waka, the maunga Tarakeha and the awa Opepe.
