Manukau marae is in Manukau, near Herekino, which is 26km south west of Kaitaia. Its primary hapū is Patupinaki of the iwi Te Rarawa, who trace their descent from the waka Māmari.
The wharenui is also Whakamaharatanga, and the wharekai is Mauri Ora. The marae connects ancestrally to the maunga Orowhana, to the awa Rangiheke and Uwhiroa and to the moana of Waikeri. Associated urupa of Manukau marae are Peteere, Tekia, Papaka and Te Hauauru.
