Whakapara marae is located on Puhipuhi Rd beside the Wairua River, 10 minutes drive north of Hikurangi on State Highway 1.
The wharenui is Te Ihi o Nehua. Whakapara marae affiliates to the Ngāti Hao and Ngāti Hau hapu, who affiliate to the iwi Ngapuhi.
