Te Kauae marae is located just outside of the Hangatiki settlement off State Highway 3.
Te Kauae connects to the maunga Pukeroa and the awa Mangapu. It belongs to the hapū Ngāti Te Kanawa, Ngāti Peehi, Ngāti Kinohaku and Ngāti Huiao of Ngāti Maniapoto iwi.
