Tārere marae is located just west of Gisborne. It belongs to the hapū Te Whānau a Iwi of Te Aitanga ā Māhaki.
The wharenui is named Te Aotipu. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta, the awa Waipaoa and the maunga Maungahaumi.
