Taiao marae is located in the rohe known as Paakinga in the Far North. It belongs to the hapū Te Kainga Mataa and Ngāti Maroke of the iwi Te Rarawa and Te Aupouri. It was established under the ancestral leadership of Te Huhu and Paraihe Papa.
The marae connects to the maunga Taiao, the moana Whangape, the waka Māmari and the tupuna Ruanui.
