Rawhitiroa (Te Ahuahu) marae is located between Kaikohe and Okaihau off State Highway 1. It is accessible via an old farm track that is near another related marae named Parawhenua. Te Ahuahu marae takes its name from the old pa atop a nearby maunga named Te Ahuahu. The principal hapu are Ngāti Hineira, Te Popoto, Te Kapotai and Te Uri Taniwha of the Ngāpuhi confederation.  The very old wharenui is called Rawhitiroa, which is sometimes used interchangably with Te Ahuahu to distinguish this marae from the pa. Te Ahuahu marae also connects to the nearby maunga named Pukenui, to the Waitangi River, and to Lake Omapere.
